The Department of Biotechnology at St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in association with the Placement Cell, organized a two-day hands-on workshop titled “Data Mastery & Document Design: The MS Office Statistical Toolkit” on November 25 and 27, 2025. The session, held at the B.Voc SD Lab from 9:00 AM onwards, focused on enhancing students’ skills in MS Word document processing, Excel-based data management, data visualization, and computer-oriented statistical techniques.

St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, inaugurated MicroFrontiers 2025, a two-day national symposium jointly organized by the Departments of Microbiology and Biochemistry in association with the Microbiologists Society, India. The event, held on November 20 and 21, brought together researchers, scholars, and students from across the country to discuss innovative strategies and research breakthroughs in Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)—one of the world's most urgent public health challenges.

The symposium commenced with a keynote address by Dr. A. M. Deshmukh, President of the Microbiologists Society, India, followed by a series of technical sessions led by eminent academicians, scientists, and industry experts. The sessions highlighted key topics including hospital-based surveillance, veterinary antimicrobial use, genomic insights, peptide-based therapeutic approaches, and emerging research challenges.

Participants also engaged in oral and poster presentations, with selected works set to be published as an edited book with an ISBN.

The Administrative Staff of St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, organized a two-day workshop on “Navigating RTI: Rights and Responsibilities” on 18th and 19th September 2025 at St. Joseph’s Hall. The seminar was funded by the Kerala State Biodiversity Board, Thiruvananthapuram.The event was held at Chavara Hall. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Minimol J S, a Member of the Kerala Biodiversity Board and Professor & Head of the Cocoa Research Centre, KAU, Vellanikkara, Thrissur. Dr. Minimol J. S. also delivered a talk on the "Guardians of Biodiversity Role of the National Biodiversity and Kerala Biodiversity Board". The inaugural session on Day 1 was presided over by Sr. Teseena. P. On September 18, 2025, the Department of Microbiology at St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, organized an expert talk titled “Idea to Startup: From Concept to Creation” at Chavara Hall. The session featured Mr. Jibin Jose, Nodal Officer & Coordinator of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Center (IEDC) at Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology, Kodakara.

The Department of Social Work, in collaboration with Kudumbashree, organized an awareness programme “let’s talk” session on Snehitha on 20th August 2025 at St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), ThrissurThe objective of the session was to familiarize students with the activities of Snehitha, a Kudumbashree initiative for the welfare of women. The resource persons were Ms. Vinitha K.A., Service Provider of Snehitha, and Ms. Vinitha A.A., staff member of Snehitha.

The session highlighted the functioning of Kudumbashree and the role of young members in its future development. The students were also briefed on the legal procedures available in cases of domestic abuse.

St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, celebrated Independence Day with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm on 15th August 2025. The programme began with the flag hoisting ceremony, followed by the national anthem. Various cultural performances, including patriotic songs, dances, and speeches, highlighted the spirit of freedom and unity. Faculty, staff, and students actively participated in the event, paying tribute to the sacrifices of the nation’s freedom fighters and reaffirming their commitment to uphold the values of democracy and patriotism.

The Department of Social Work, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in association with Rotary Club, Rotaract, and Harmony, organized an awareness session on World Organ Donation Day on 13th August 2025 at Jubilee Hall. The programme was held on the theme “Save Lives as an Organ Donor – You could be someone’s missing piece.” Fr. Davis Chiramel served as the keynote speaker and inspired the gathering to realize the value and impact of organ donation. The session highlighted the importance of creating awareness, encouraged donor registration, and promoted the noble act of saving lives through organ donation.

The Kerala State AIDS Control Society (KSACS), in association with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), inaugurated the Yuvajagaran – Wayanad Nattukoottam health awareness campaign on August 12, 2025, at Jubilee Hall, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur. The programme was organized by the NSS Unit of St. Mary’s College, Thrissur, as part of a state-wide initiative that covered Thrissur, Palakkad, and Kozhikode districts from August 12 to September 20, 2025. The campaign aimed to educate youth and the community on health, wellness, and HIV/AIDS prevention through awareness sessions and interactive activities.

The Department of Biotechnology, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, inaugurated its association CELLUXA – Where Cell Meets Brilliance for the academic year 2025–2026 on 8th August 2025 at St. Chavara Seminar Hall.

The association was inaugurated by Dr. Bijoy C, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Christ College (Autonomous), Irinjalakuda, who also delivered an engaging expert talk on “Fireflies: Jewels of the Night.”

Following his session, Dr. Deepa G. Muricken, Head and Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, St. Mary’s College, Thrissur, addressed the gathering with an insightful talk on “Smart Composting: A Biochemist’s Journey from Lab to Patent” as part of the Journal Club inauguration.

In the absence of the Principal, Dr. Sr. Meena K. Cheruvathoor, the programme was coordinated by Head of the Department Dr. Anu P. A., faculty coordinator Ms. Prasanna R. Kovath, and student coordinators Aparna Rajesh and Aleena Davis. The sessions enriched participants with scientific knowledge and inspired innovative thinking in the field of biotechnology.

St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amala Institute of Medical Sciences to foster academic collaboration and promote advancements in research. Manjima M Mohan and Navya K Praveen, II B.Sc. Chemistry students of St. Mary’s College, Thrissur, secured the third position in the State Level Quiz Competition organised by the Central Bureau of Communication. The achievement highlights their dedication, teamwork, and academic excellence.

The Department of Social Work, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), conducted a meaningful session titled "Solace Campus Connect" on 5th August 2025 at Chavara Hall from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

The event featured Mrs. Sheeba Ameer, Founder of Solace, who shared her inspiring journey of founding and leading an organization dedicated to the care and support of children with long-term illnesses. Her session deeply resonated with the audience, highlighting the power of empathy and social commitment.The programme was held under the leadership of Mr. Joshy Kurian, Head of the Department of Social Work. Although Principal Dr. Sr. Meena K Cheruvathur was unable to attend the event, her support for the initiative was acknowledged.The event successfully fostered awareness about social responsibility among students and emphasized the importance of standing by those in need.

The Department of Economics, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council, organized an engaging Product Exhibition and an insightful talk on “Innovating With Impact: Insights From a Patentee” on 4th August 2025.The session was led by Dr. Deepa G Muricken, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, who shared her journey as a patentee and inspired students to explore innovation with purpose and impact. The Department of Management Studies at St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in association with the Thrissur Management Association (TMA) and the Employment Exchange, Thrissur, organized an inspiring talk titled “Build Your Start-Up Dreams” on 1st August 2025. The session took place at Chavara Hall at 1:00 PM.

Mr. P. J. Seejo, Managing Partner of Ponnore Group, served as the keynote speaker and delivered a thought-provoking session on entrepreneurship, offering insights into building and sustaining start-ups. The event aimed to motivate students to pursue innovative business ideas with confidence and clarity.

Although Principal Dr. Sr. Meena K Cheruvathur was unable to attend the event, the program was successfully conducted under the guidance of Dr. Jasmy C Anto, Head of the Department of Management Studies.

The Department of Multimedia (B.Voc) at St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, organized its Association Inauguration on 30th July 2025 at Jubilee Hall. The event commenced at 10:00 AM and was graced by the presence of Mr. Charli S Panicker, CEO of Qcamy Innovations Pvt. Ltd., as the Guest of Honour.

With the theme “We have a Vision, Embark on Creative,” the program aimed to inspire and encourage students to pursue innovation and creativity in the field of multimedia. The function was conducted under the leadership of Sr. Dr. Meena K Cheruvathur (Principal), Smt. Deepa K.C (Head of the Department), Mr. Neeraj Roshan (Staff Coordinator), and Ms. Drishya (Student Coordinator).

The event marked a significant beginning for the department’s activities for the academic year and served as a platform for students to connect, collaborate, and grow in their creative pursuits.

The social work trainees from St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, actively volunteered at an the ESAF Balajyothi project Camp held on July 28, 2025, at S.N.U.P. School in Kunnapilly. The theme of the camp was “Today's habits and tomorrow's health’. 

A key highlight of the camp was a session on healthy habits, which engaged the children in interactive activities such as comparing healthy and unhealthy practices from their daily lives. This session encouraged the students to reflect on their behavior and inspired them to adopt more positive and beneficial lifestyle habits essential for overall well-being.

SARGOLSAVAM SUMMER CAMP AT GOVERNMENT UPPER PRIMARY SCHOOL, ANANDHAPURAM

On July 26, 2025, social work students from St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, volunteered at the ESAF Sargolsavam Summer Camp held at Government Upper Primary School, Anandhapuram. The camp, attended by over 70 students from classes 7 and 8, was inaugurated by the school’s principal, Ms. Shylaja. ESAF staff member Ms. Shiny Jose, along with volunteers Ardra, Aneesha, and Theertha, conducted interactive activities and games that promoted teamwork, concentration, and coordination. Students also showcased their talents through songs and dances. The camp successfully fostered confidence and leadership among participants.

Department of Psychology, St. Mary's College 

(Autonomous), Thrissur, in association with the IAN Institute of Rehabilitation 

and Research, organized a one-day workshop on "Music and Movement Therapy" on 23rd July 2025 at Psychology 

Lab at 9.30 AM. 

The session was led by Ms. Angel Roy, (Consultant Psychologist, IAN Institute of Rehabilitation and Research). The workshop includes individual activities, group activities, hypnotherapy, meditation, stress relief techniques , anonymous emotion expression activities etc. The workshop effectively highlighted the role of music and movement as powerful tools in psychological healing and therapy.

The Department of Psychology organised an alumne talk on the topic "An Introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis" for both 1st and 2nd PG Psychology students on 11/07/2025. The session was led by Ms. Najula K.,  Behaviour Analyst, Dubai Autism Center.The session commenced at 10:00 AM in Psychology lab.The one hour session aimed at

enriching students’ knowledge about Applied Behavior Analysis; its scope and career pathways.

It gave an overview of how one can contribute to the field of psychology using distinctive

methods like Applied Behavior Analysis in both India and abroad. She also focused on the

courses and examinations required to qualify as a behavior analyst, especially in the Middle East.

The Department of Social Work, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in collaboration with the Centre for Life Skill Learning (GLSL), successfully conducted an interactive session titled "Skill Bloom" on 28th July 2025 at Jubilee Hall. The session, held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, focused on the theme "Smart Skill for Smart Living."

Mr. Ashok Nenmara, Director of GLSL, served as the resource person and led the session with enthusiasm and insight. He engaged the participants with practical tips and discussions on developing essential life skills that are crucial for personal and professional growth.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Joshi Kurian (Head of the Department) and supported by faculty members Ms. Hyma, Ms. Agna, and Ms. Irine. The session was well-received by the participants and served as a valuable learning experience for all.

The Department of Economics, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, organised an insightful talk titled "Empowering Global Perspectives: A Postgraduate’s Journey" on 28th July 2025 at Chavara Hall. The session was led by Ann Martin, who holds an MSc in Economics and Finance from the University of Bristol, UK, and is a former intern at UNCTAD.

Ann Martin shared her academic and professional journey, offering students valuable insights into pursuing higher education abroad and building global perspectives. Her experiences inspired and encouraged the audience to explore international opportunities.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Binu Ann Kuriachan (Faculty Coordinator) under the leadership of Dr. Julie P Lazar (Head of the Department). Student coordinators Adhyalakshmi A.J. and Parvathy Vidyadharan (I Sem BA Economics) efficiently managed the organisation of the session.

The inauguration of the TMA (Thrissur Management Association) Student Chapter Activities for the academic year 2025–26 was held on Friday, 25th July 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur. The event was conducted in association with the All India Management Association (AIMA).

The keynote address was delivered by Er. N I Verghese, Managing Director of Forms Builders and Past President of TMA, on the thought-provoking topic “Saints and Angels in Management.”

Dr. Dalie Dominic A, Vice Principal & IQAC Coordinator of St. Mary’s College, delivered the Presidential Address. Mr. Padmakumar C, President of TMA, delivered the Inaugural Address, while CA Shaji P J, Hon. Secretary of TMA, offered felicitations. July 25, 2025 – The 7 Kerala (G) Battalion NCC unit of St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, solemnly observed Kargil Vijay Diwas to honour the courage and sacrifice of Indian soldiers during the Kargil War. The event, themed “शहीदों को सलाम” (Salute to the Martyrs), was held on campus with patriotic fervour and deep respect.

The Guest of Honour for the occasion was Lt. Col Brijesh M T, Administrative Officer of 24 Kerala Battalion NCC, who addressed the gathering and emphasized the significance of remembering the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.

The event was organized under the leadership of Dr. Sr. Meena K Cheruvathur, Principal of St. Mary’s College, with active coordination by Lt. Anu D Alappat, Associate NCC Officer, and Devi Nandhana A, Junior Under Officer.

The ceremony served as a reminder of the valour of Indian armed forces and reinforced the spirit of patriotism among the cadets and students.

The Department of Botany, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in collaboration with the Ayurveda Medical Association of India (AMAI), successfully organized ‘Karkidaka Botanicals’ on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. The event celebrated Kerala’s rich heritage of medicinal plants and traditional wellness practices.

The highlights of the event included expert talks by renowned Ayurveda practitioners Dr. Keerthy Subin and Dr. Parvathy R on the topic “Pathila – 10 Wonder Leaves of Kerala.” The sessions provided valuable insights into the therapeutic uses of these ten medicinal leaves commonly utilized during the Karkidaka season.

An exhibition and poster presentation titled “Pacha Paadha” showcased the diversity and healing properties of Kerala’s native medicinal flora, attracting considerable attention from students and visitors alike.

A major attraction of the day was the intercollegiate cooking competition “10 Leaves @ 1 Winner”, where participants creatively prepared dishes using the traditional ‘Pathila’ leaves. The winners were awarded exciting cash prizes sponsored by Lakshmi Ayurveda and Prasavaraksha Hospital.

The event, held at Chavara Hall and the Kalajyothi Open Stage, drew enthusiastic participation and successfully promoted awareness about the healing power of nature and Kerala’s age-old Ayurvedic traditions.

The National Employability Services (Kerala), in association with the Thrissur District Employment Exchange, Employability Centre, and St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, organized a Mega Job Fair on Saturday, 19th July 2025. The event was conducted at the college campus, with the inauguration taking place at 10:00 AM.

The job fair provided a valuable platform for job seekers, offering access to over 500 job openings from more than 25 reputed companies across various sectors. Spot registration began at 9:00 AM and witnessed an enthusiastic turnout.

The Department of Zoology at St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in association with Daya General Hospital, successfully conducted a comprehensive training session on Emergency Response & First Aid Essentials on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. The session was held at the college’s Zoology Lab from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM.

Designed to enhance awareness and preparedness among students, the program focused on vital life-saving techniques, including CPR, wound management, fracture care, and emergency response protocols. Medical professionals from Daya Hospital led the hands-on training, ensuring participants gained both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to respond confidently during medical emergencies.

The event witnessed active participation from students, who appreciated the relevance and importance of such training in today’s fast-paced world. The initiative underscores the college’s commitment to holistic education and student well-being through impactful collaborations with healthcare institutions.

On 16th July at 1:00 PM, the vibrant campus of St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, witnessed an electrifying moment as the cast and crew of the upcoming movie Sahasam joined the Performing Arts Club Inauguration. The event was filled with cheers, star presence, and infectious energy, making it an unforgettable celebration for all students. Their visit added a cinematic charm to the occasion, leaving the audience inspired and starstruck.

The Department of Biotechnology organized the Ayur Vigyan Yatra on 16th July 2025. As part of the program, students visited the Herbal Garden of Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College, the Vaidyaratnam Museum, and the Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Research Institute (VARI). At the Herbal Garden, Dr. Nimmy ,Assistant Professor in the Department of Dravyaguna Vijnana provided detailed insights into the therapeutic uses of various medicinal plants. In the museum, curator Anil explained the historical and cultural significance of Ayurveda.  An orientation session was conducted by 

Dr. Sheela Karalam (R&D Head) and Dr. Ashish G R (Senior Scientist) at VARI, followed by a tour of research departments equipped with sophisticated instruments.The visit highlighted the integration of traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern research, enriching students understanding of its applications in Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical development.

In commemoration of the 78th birth anniversary of Dr. Lalji Singh, pioneer of DNA fingerprinting in India, the Department of Biotechnology, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, organized an intercollegiate scientific presentation competition on 10th July 2025.

Held as a tribute to Dr. Singh’s contributions to forensic genetics and biotechnology, the event aimed to inspire students to explore the evolution and future of DNA fingerprinting. Out of 12 registered participants, 8 students presented at Chavara Hall, covering diverse topics from its origin to advancements in legal and medical applications.

The Department of Zoology and the National Service Scheme (NSS - Units 44 & 220) of St. Mary’s College Thrissur, in collaboration with Daya General Hospital Viyyur, organized a CPR Training Program titled “Learn, Act, Save” on 15th July 2025. The objective of this program was to equip students with life-saving CPR skills and promote awareness about emergency response techniques. The expert team included Dr. Shaiju Vilsan (Emergency Medicine Physician, Daya Hospital), C. A. Abdul Basheer (Resource Person, Daya Hospital Rescue Team), Ms. Milkha P Joy (Staff Nurse, Daya Hospital).

Department of Botany and Zoology in collaboration with State Museum and Zoo, Thrissur organized a one-day program ‘A Walk on the Wild Side’, a live experience to create an awareness amongst students on Wildlife Conservation at the State Museum and Zoo, Thrissur on 16th July 2025. The first session of the program was ‘Familiarizing Wildlife’, the students had a walk inside the zoo exploring various flora and fauna in and around. The second session was a talk on ‘Wildlife Conservation’ by Mr. Anil Kumar T V, Superintendent, State Museum and Zoo, Thrissur. The students learned the importance of preserving ecological balance, Enhancing biodiversity and Protecting endangered species.

Alappuzha, July 15, 2025 — Marking World Youth Skills Day (WYSD), ASAP Kerala organized a vibrant lineup of activities across 16 Community Skill Parks in the state, aiming to equip young people with essential skills for a brighter future.

As part of the celebrations, the Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence, in collaboration with the District Skill Committee, held a seminar at SD College, Alappuzha. Themed “Youth Empowerment Using AI and Digital Skills,” the event began at 10:00 a.m. and was inaugurated by District Collector Alex Varghese.

Dr. Manjusha Rani, Head and Assistant Professor of the Department of Applied Biotechnology, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, has brought pride to the institution by securing the third position in Oral Presentation at the 1st Global Agriculture Conference – DTAEEFA 2025.

The international conference, themed “Digital Transformation in Agricultural Education: Empowering the Future of Agriculture”, was jointly organized by the Society for Agriculture, Allied Sciences and Technology (SAAST), Odisha; School of Agriculture, SR University, Warangal; and Meadow Agriculture Pvt. Ltd.

July 7 marked a momentous occasion as St Mary’s College celebrated its 79th anniversary. To honour this milestone, the Department of History organised a special exhibition showcasing rare photographs and historical records dating back to the college’s founding in 1946.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Sr. Teseena P Emmatty, Vice Principal of St Mary’s College, who highlighted the institution’s rich legacy and its journey through the decades. Kerala launched the statewide inauguration of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP), titled Vijnanolsavam, on July 1, 2025. The event was officially inaugurated in Kozhikode by the Honourable Minister for Higher Education, Dr. R. Bindu. Following the main event, individual colleges across the state, including KITTS and Government College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram, held their own inaugurations. The virtual Zumba workout aimed to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and a sense of community among the newly admitted students. Led by a certified Zumba instructor, the session saw enthusiastic participation and created a lively, inclusive atmosphere to welcome students into campus life. By becoming part of GENESI, the Department of Physical Education is now contributing actively to the college’s broader mission of holistic student development through fitness, digital engagement, and innovative co-curricular programming.

B.Voc Software Development Department Celebrates World Environment Day with Nature Bingo Competition

The Department of B.Voc Software Development at St. Mary's College (Autonomous), Thrissur, successfully organized a Nature Bingo competition on June 5th to commemorate World Environment Day 2025.  Participants roamed the campus grounds in teams, photographing listed natural items to complete bingo lines. Ansa Varghese (II B.Sc. Biotechnology) won first prize of ₹500, and Neha Kishore (II B.Sc. Biotechnology) took second prize of ₹250. The event was coordinated by faculty member Smt. Aparna U and student coordinators Archana Shybu K and Annliya M B.

The Language Departments Host National Level Spell Bee Competition as Part of Reading Week

On 25th June 2025, the Language Departments of the College organized a National Level  Spell Bee Competition as part of Reading Week celebration. The event brought together talented young spellers from many leading institutions inside and outside the state. With an atmosphere of enthusiasm and healthy competition, the participants showcased their vocabulary skills and presence of mind. After a series of challenging rounds, Riya m shiju of St. Paul’s Public School secured the first prize, while Joann Joby and Bhadra Ravindren of Sacred Heart School, Thrissur claimed the second position. The event successfully promoted a love for language, spelling, and reading among school students, reinforcing the significance of literacy in a fun and engaging way.

A memorable book launch event took place yesterday, graced by the presence of renowned dignitaries in St Mary's College Thrissur . The program was highlighted by the official release of a new "CHERUKADINDE NADAGANGAL" authored by Dr. Merykunnju K K. The book was formally launched by V.P. Krishnan Nair, who ceremoniously handed over the first copy to V.P. Chithra, marking the official unveiling of the publication. As part of our dedication to sustainability and environmental consciousness, the Department of Chemistry at St. Marys's College (Autonomous), Thrissur, launched a green campaign called "Beat Plastic Pollution" in honor of World Environment Day on 5th June 2025. The message "we transform waste into life" was communicated through the giving of tree saplings.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Commerce Department organized a collage-making competition on June 5, 2025. The event took place from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Students showcased their creativity through vibrant collages highlighting environmental themes. The competition aimed to raise awareness about environmental conservation.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Department of Management Studies, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, organized a green initiative titled “Earth’s Gift Exchange: Plants” on 5th June 2025. The event encouraged students and faculty to bring and exchange potted plants as a symbolic gesture of environmental care and sustainability. Department of Microbiology at St. Mary's College (Autonomous), Thrissur proudly announces the launch of NutriFin, the first product developed under MicroInnovate program.

NutriFin, a novel fish amino acid formulation, is fermented organic fertilizer designed to promote plant  growth and improve soil health. It was developed by Ms. Ariya Manoj and Ms. Afrah, second-year PG Microbiology students.
