St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, inaugurated MicroFrontiers 2025, a two-day national symposium jointly organized by the Departments of Microbiology and Biochemistry in association with the Microbiologists Society, India. On July 26, 2025, social work students from St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, volunteered at the ESAF Sargolsavam Summer Camp held at Government Upper Primary School, Anandhapuram. The camp, attended by over 70 students from classes 7 and 8, was inaugurated by the school’s principal, Ms. Shylaja. ESAF staff member Ms. Shiny Jose, along with volunteers Ardra, Aneesha, and Theertha, conducted interactive activities and games that promoted teamwork, concentration, and coordination. Students also showcased their talents through songs and dances. The camp successfully fostered confidence and leadership among participants.

July 25, 2025 – The 7 Kerala (G) Battalion NCC unit of St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, solemnly observed Kargil Vijay Diwas to honour the courage and sacrifice of Indian soldiers during the Kargil War. The event, themed “शहीदों को सलाम” (Salute to the Martyrs), was held on campus with patriotic fervour and deep respect.

The Guest of Honour for the occasion was Lt. Col Brijesh M T, Administrative Officer of 24 Kerala Battalion NCC, who addressed the gathering and emphasized the significance of remembering the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.

The event celebrated Kerala’s rich heritage of medicinal plants and traditional wellness practices.

The highlights of the event included expert talks by renowned Ayurveda practitioners Dr. Keerthy Subin and Dr. Parvathy R on the topic “Pathila – 10 Wonder Leaves of Kerala.” The sessions provided valuable insights into the therapeutic uses of these ten medicinal leaves commonly utilized during the Karkidaka season.

An exhibition and poster presentation titled “Pacha Paadha” showcased the diversity and healing properties of Kerala’s native medicinal flora, attracting considerable attention from students and visitors alike.

A major attraction of the day was the intercollegiate cooking competition “10 Leaves @ 1 Winner”, where participants creatively prepared dishes using the traditional ‘Pathila’ leaves. The winners were awarded exciting cash prizes sponsored by Lakshmi Ayurveda and Prasavaraksha Hospital.

As part of the program, students visited the Herbal Garden of Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College, the Vaidyaratnam Museum, and the Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Research Institute (VARI). At the Herbal Garden, Dr. Nimmy ,Assistant Professor in the Department of Dravyaguna Vijnana provided detailed insights into the therapeutic uses of various medicinal plants. In commemoration of the 78th birth anniversary of Dr. Lalji Singh, pioneer of DNA fingerprinting in India, the Department of Biotechnology, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, organized an intercollegiate scientific presentation competition on 10th July 2025.
