History of the Department

The Department of Commerce was established in St. Mary’s College in the year 2012. The department started functioning with the one-degree course – B Com. In 2013, the Department has elevated to Postgraduate Department with the commencement of a Post Graduate Course – M.Com in Finance. The objective of our department is to groom students to cope up with the new challenging Commerce World.We emphasize on the practical application of accounting practices and also we equip the students with the skills of preparing financial statements for various type of organizations, financial reporting standards, business management concepts etc. We are also providing job – oriented trainings for students to enhance their abilities and to become an accounting professional.

Since 2012 , the department has been actively engaged in multifarious activities to fulfill its vision and mission. Various events and competitions are organized to cater to the holistic development of the students. Femissionals, Dhamaka, Pecunia, and Comquiz are the landmark Inter- collegiate events conducted by the department of commerce. We always ensure the participation of our students and alumini's for various programmes conducted. Besides these competitions , National level and State – level Seminars were also conducted. Invited talk of eminent personalities was organized to encourage and empower our students. Department of commerce always tried to encourage students skills and ideas, for that various opportunities for seminars, workshop and conferences were also arranged for students. We provide various study materials and ensure technologically advanced classes and activities to cope with the dynamic environment. We ensure career counseling and campus placement opportunities to each and every students in our department.

We also trains our students to be socially responsible citizens for that we encourage them to do various activities to achieve humanitarian goals . we organize programmes such as visit to palliative care units, old age homes orphanages etc. and provides support in all kinds for them . Programmes were also conducted as part of swachh Bharat Mission beyond the college. As part of studies, we ensure special support to slow learner's and we promotes advanced learners too. As we are the one of the young departments of St Mary's college, we always supported all the activities conducted by college and to cooperate with all the other departments to fulfill our mission of Espirit de corps from the ground level.
